Your perception of possible improvement is both God’s invitation for you to improve and his certification that you are capable of doing so.

We have the tremendous promise in scripture that you can obey any commandment which you can perceive:

...the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them. (1 Nephi 3:7)

Put into more general language understandable to someone who isn’t religious, you are capable of every increment of human character you can perceive.

Your realization of what is best is God’s call to you to do it:

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (John 3)

God makes it possible for you to do everything you can imagine he would do in your place.
