The principle limit we place on God isn’t so much in what we think we want or how much we think we want it, but what we are willing to endure as the Lord sends us what is required to obtain what we want.

The Lord said, “Behold, I am the law, and the light. Look unto me, and endure to the end, and ye shall live; for unto him that endureth to the end will I give eternal life.” (3 Nephi 15:9) To “endure to the end” is to retain your willingness to let go of what you already have in exchange for something better, even when it is not readily apparent that it is better, until God has given you all there is to receive and all he has.

What are your limits?

Perhaps what you think you lack is ideal starting conditions. Lack of ideal conditions is insufficient to preclude trying. “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” (Proverbs 20:4) “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” (Ecclesiastes 11:4)

What is your pace?

30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man. (Proverbs 24)

How do you limit God in how fast you can receive things? Is there any aspect of your life that is off limits to improvement? Is there anything you aren’t willing to do?

How different are you willing to be? Can you withstand unlimited persecution?

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. (Proverbs 28:19)

How long are you willing to endure? The length of the path is insufficient to preclude trying. “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” (Proverbs 22:29) “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 28:20) When you try to take a shortcut to the desired outcome, you fail to experience the process that is required to become the type of person to whom those outcomes manifest. Your desire for the outcome without the requisite process will require you to engage in unsavory means to achieve what can’t be purchased without a price.

How much effort are you willing to exert? It will require everything. “The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.” (Proverbs 21:25)

How far can you go until you quit? If the spirit comes upon you to the point of overwhelming you, do you say “Lord, it is enough?” If the Lord provides pathways to higher blessings, do you say “Lord, this is too hard”?

Be willing to endure all things. Realize that the path to obtaining all God has is through descending below all things.

7 ...all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.
8 The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he? (D&C 122)
