Some assume that God’s justice is primarily negative. Justice means to give what is merited. Justice is neither inherently negative nor positive. It comprises both reward and punishment. Whether God’s justice drives blessing or punishment in your life is wholly dependent on the degree to which your desires and actions are aligned with him.
For example, God’s justice inclines toward blessings for the righteous and punishment for the wicked: “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” (Psalm 7:11) For those who are oppressed, God’s judgment provides redemption: “The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.” (Psalm 103:6)
God’s justice is not rooted in either punishment or blessing, but in cause and effect. The root of God’s justice is consequence of things as they really are. To maximize your benefit from God’s justice, you should align your desires and actions completely with your most sincere understanding of his character and will, as he is the complete embodiment of things as they really are and the perfect example of how to be in order to navigate reality for the greatest joy.
