So much of our mood comes from whether we perceive ourselves making measurable progress towards worthwhile goals. The obviousness of the following statement does not diminish its power: The best way to feel as if you are making progress on a goal is to actually make progress on the goal.
The worse you feel, the harder and more intelligently you should pursue your goal. Most people do the exact opposite. If the next step toward your goals is too large for your present resources, you won’t make it. Chop the next step down to match your resources, or pivot to another goal whose next step is within reach of your reduced resources.
