One problem preventing many from fault correction with the same intensity as what they desire is that few people have explicitly identified what it is they want, let alone how much they want it. As you can imagine, this disconnect creates many problems, including the failure to see your faults as barriers to what you want. Without identifying what you want, you are unlikely to take the necessary steps to get it, including the character flaws that will absolutely prevent you from doing so. Without identifying how much you want it, you are unlikely to displace the many things that prevent you from having it, including those impeding character flaws.
In the wisdom literature, we are counseled to be intentional and honest about what we pursue in life:
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. (Proverbs 4:26)
Explicitly consider what you want. What options do you have to choose from? What is the cost and benefit of each? Which option yields the greatest long-term benefit?
Consciously choose what you want. Rationally, your selection should be the option that yields the greatest long-term benefit, but if you truly desire something less, recognize and own the consequences of your suboptimal choice.
