Others can sometimes help you discover your potential

All potential has a path to being fulfilled. Sometimes the path is known and the person is already capable of taking the next step on it. Often, however, the person lacks the strength or motivation to take the next step, and sometimes the next step is not known. Too often, potential goes unfulfilled because a person is too prideful to accept that they do not have all the answers and are not capable of solving every problem alone. Too often, potential goes unfulfilled because a person is terminally trapped at the limits of their present knowledge. In cases including these, the assistance of another can be helpful.

Reality is successive and progressive. Your knowledge of yourself, others, and the world grows line upon line. It is always the case that there is someone else out there that knows what still lies beyond your own understanding. No matter where you are on your path, there is someone, somewhere, that knows the next steps better than you, has already taken them, and who can help you by identifying options you haven’t considered, provide you with better reasons and stronger evidence for and against the options you face, and help you take the next step.¹
